What Happens When we Follow God's Instructions

Have you ever thought about how the Lord’s instructions are not meant to harm us?

This is often not the first thought that comes to mind when we think of receiving instructions from ANYONE lol. Unless there is apparent possible danger.

Joshua 22 talks about obedience to the Lord’s instructions. Instructions are defined as directions or orders according to Google. And directions and orders equate to an authoritative command. An authoritative command is not a suggestion.

So that being said, when we think about instructions being equivalent to direction, we see that the instructions literally lead us to a destined point, a specific location.

In Psalm 32:8, the Lord tells us “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.” Proverbs — which is packed with wisdom and insight — tells us in chapter 16 verse 20, that those who listen to instruction will prosper.

So what happens when we follow instructions? God tells us that when we follow His instructions:

#1 We are on a path that leads to life. Meaning we avoid things that steal, kill, and destroy our livelihood. Things that may put you in danger in some capacity. And we also avoid leading others astray. Proverbs 10:17

#2 We will be wise all of our life if we seek Godly wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 19:20 NLT

#3 God promises us joy when we follow instructions. And He tells us that we will prosper if we listen to instruction. Proverbs 16:20

When we prosper, so many things happen — our territory, our access expands and increases. We upgrade in life, we experience joy, divine fulfillment, life gets better than what it currently is. We succeed, and flourish. By definition, to prosper means to have success financially. Consider King Solomon who asked God for WISDOM. The word of God tells us that he was the wealthiest man ever — because he acquired great wisdom. And in order to gain wisdom, you must get instruction.

So if you’re looking for change in your life or to get ahead, a great way to get some motion going is by following the Lord’s instructions. Granted they may be uncomfortable at times, but I have the cheat code for you — ask the Holy Spirit to help you. You can also ask the Holy Spirit to give you the desire to do what the Lord instructed you. And know that there is an end, a specific destination God is directing you to for your benefit. This one is such a refreshment and honestly is helping my mindset!

And if there are directions that the Lord gave you but you didn’t follow, simply repent (turn away from not doing what the Lord told you) and do the last thing He told you. Or if you are in the clear on this one, you can follow instructions about how God calls us to treat people, how to forgive, how to be cheerful givers, how to love others, and how to love Him. All, are powerful ways to honor God. Because they came straight from Him personally!
